The public school lottery made it so I couldn’t guarantee my son went to school next to our home. The cost of full-time childcare at my office was insane and we couldn’t even get him a spot for full-time (despite getting on the waiting list when I was eight weeks pregnant — the daycare knew I was pregnant before my mom!). Our Marina flat was in a prime spot but was outdated and — to be honest — slightly dangerous for children. Are you better off now than when you were living in the Bay Area? Absolutely, yes!
